Work appreciation

Mid-20th century | Oil on canvas | Purchased in Belgium for the collection

Two overturned baskets form a dense mass at left as cherries disperse towards the right, ending in a quiet pair of red fruit. A cool grey-green field sets off reds, wine tones and blue-black fruit, while the dry weave of wicker contrasts with rounded, reflective skins. The scene captures the instant after movement has ceased, lending ordinary objects a restrained meditation on abundance and passing time.
