A central ceramic jar provides the vertical axis as grapes and fruit spread to either side and a vivid red lobster anchors the foreground. Deep brown and green set off blue-grey pottery, green grapes and orange-red shell. Varied handling evokes glass, peel, basketry and cloth, revisiting the European banquet-still-life tradition in a direct, decorative 20th-century manner.
